Nita Belcoe Obituary

Nita Belcoe moved on to the next chapter of her journey on May 24, 2012 at the age of 91. Born in Okanogan County to William and Anna Kate Cross on August 23, 1920, she grew up in Mansfield, Washington. She was one of 12 children, six of whom lived to adulthood.
Her early travels took her to Arizona to care for one of her nephews and to California, following her brothers who had relocated to there. She later returned to her parents' new home in Skagit County, met Ernie Belcoe and they married in 1952. Nita worked as a beautician for many years before taking time off to be a full-time mom. She later returned to teach cosmetology in Bellingham and later to run her own beauty shop.
Nita was a 4-H leader and avid "horse show mom." She was a dedicated wife, a tenacious mother bear, and an extraordinary grandma to her precious granddaughters - the two lights of her life. Nita was blessed with a limitless capacity to love and was "Grandma Nita" to any child who had the pleasure of meeting her.
Nita was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Ernie. She is survived by her children, Lori and Terry, her beloved granddaughters, Amber and Ana, a large number of surrogate children and grandchildren called the "Cows."
Bon voyage, Mom. Godspeed.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Brigid Collins Family Support Center.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 1, at 2 PM, at The Chapel at Moles-Greenacres.

Nita will always be remembered as a warm and loving "mom" and "grandma" not only to her own family but to many who new her and loved her.

Her daughter Lori and I were good friends through our high school years. I was so honored to have spoken to her just recently. I recall Ms. Nita's home was always very warm and inviting for me in my teen years. I felt very comfortable to just drop by frequently, then to stay to dine within the Belcoe home. Then as my friendship continued Ms. Nita was like a second grandma to my first baby. I love and hold my memories of Ms Nita dearly.
