Betsy Rudner Obituary

Betsy L. Rudner, a former resident of red Mountain Road and more recently Pine Knoll in Arlington, VT and Brookdale, passed away on July 22, 2023. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on October 29, 1928, the daughter of Max L. and Hazel E. (Pearce) Holmes.

Following World War II Betsy was a dancer in the London Company of Oklahoma. It was there that she met and later married Robert Patterson who was a singer in the London Company. They were married in South Orange, New Jersey. Betsy and Robert then lived in New York City where Betsy was employed as an assistant occupational therapist at Roosevelt Hospital.

Betsy later married Sidney Rudner and together they bought a house in Poughkeepsie, NY. Betsy was then employed as a mental health Aid in Albany and later worked at the Hudson River Psychiatric Center from which she retired.

Betsy worked with the developmentally disabled. She had her own methods of helping the disabled which were very effective. She taught a class called Bone Builders, in Manchester, VT for 10 years and took woodworking and art classes at Bennington College. Betsy was also involved with the Dorset Theatre, which she really enjoyed.

Survivors include her children; Wendy Rau and Hans G. Patterson, a sister, Sue Taylor of Livingston, New Jersey, a nephew, William Holmes of Bennington, VT and several grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Robert Patterson and two daughters, Cynthia Villa and Victoria Schoen.

At Betsy's request, there will be no formal services. Following her cremation, it was her desire to have her ashes scattered.

My deepest sympathy to Betsy's family. She was my neighbor at Pine Knoll. I have found memories of sitting out talking to her and we even had her join us for a barbecue.
Sincerely. William Lapsley.

I remember Sydney Betsy, so well we were involved in the design in building of their house on red Mountain. She was a very special lady.
