Ronald MacWhinnie Obituary

Ronald B. MacWhinnie, 83, of Columbia Cross Roads, PA, passed away peacefully on June 2, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Born on March 25, 1942, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he was a son of David and Lillian (Boedeker) MacWhinnie.

On September 9, 1960, Ronald married Sherida Petell.

Ronald always knew he wanted to be a farmer and worked for several local farms growing up. In 1967, an investor, Linus Strickland, gave Ronald an opportunity to become a farmer for one of the farms he owned. In 1968, Ronald and Sherida took that opportunity and became residents of Columbia Cross Roads and after a few short years they were the owners of the Harold Woodard Farm.

Ronald enjoyed farming and the life that he shared with his wife Sherida of 65 years. He loved going to car shows and cruising around in his 1957 Chevy, but being with his family, especially his grandchildren and great great-grandchildren, and many friends, gave him the most joy.

He is survived by his wife Sherida, daughters: Sally-Jo MacWhinnie, of Cedarville, New York, Joanne (Wayne) Benson, of Bentley Creek, Sheri (Troy Schoenly) MacWhinnie, of Troy, sons: David (Judy) MacWhinnie, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, and Heath (Tammy) MacWhinnie, of Columbia Cross Roads, 18 grandchildren and 41 great grandchildren, brothers: Roderick (Joyce) MacWhinnie, of Pittsfield, Mass and Daniel (Linda) MacWhinnie, of Lanesborough, Mass., sister L. Barbara Wall, of San Mateo, Cali., and several nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, brother's Robert and Raymond, and sister Joan Matson.

There will be a public visitation on Sunday, June 8, 2025, from 12-1 p.m. at the Robert's Funeral Home, 279 Main St., Wellsburg, NY, 14894 followed by a service at 1 p.m. with Pastor Rob Wuethrich of the Bentley Creek Wesleyan Church officiating. Committal service and burial will be at the Bentley Creek Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, can be made to the Newman W. Benson Acute Rehabilitation in Towanda, PA or the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Wellsboro, PA. The MacWhinnie family has entrusted Ronald's services to the Roberts Funeral Home, Inc., Wellsburg, NY.
