Charles Warren Obituary

Dr. Charles Oliver Warren, 82, of Big Spring, returned to his heavenly home from his loving home Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2015, at First Baptist Church in Big Spring, with Pastor Mark Lindsey officiating. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2015, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home.
Charles was born March 2, 1933, in Big Spring, Texas. He was the youngest of eight children born to MS and Grace Warren. Charles graduated from Howard County Junior College and the University of Texas before being drafted by the United States Army. He played basketball in high school and at both Howard Junior College and the University of Texas. He started his own dental practice, which operated for many years, in Big Spring.
Charles was blessed with a large and loving family. He married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Jo Riddle, May 28, 1954, in Big Spring. They raised four incredible children; Mike, Lisa, Mark and Matt, and from the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels and to lean on the Lord every day.
Charles was a humanitarian at heart. Aside from being a deacon of First Baptist Church, he served as a trustee of Howard College for more than 50 years. He started a dental missionary that went to Madagascar. He was involved with little league baseball, YMCA, Kiwanis and Key Club. His personal motto was: "Involvement with young people, the hope of our future." He was also an active member of First Baptist Church.
He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.
Charles is survived by his wife of 61 years, Shirley; their four children, Mike Warren and spouse, Lisa Warren, Mark Warren and spouse, and Matt Warren; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his brother, Bill Warren; and so many life long friends.
He is preceded in death by his sisters, Estaleene Rice, Wanda Erickson, Leta Metcalf; brothers, Carlos Warren, G.T. Warren, Curtis Warren; his parents, Shack and Grace and one grandson, Luke Warren.
Flowers are welcome, however, if you wish to send something in lieu of, remembrances can be sent to Howard College, Attn: Jan Foresyth, 1001 Birdwell Lane, Big Spring, Texas 79720.
