NAPOLEON - Bernard "Ben" Fettig, 87, Napoleon, passed away Dec. 29, 2011, at the Napoleon Care Center. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon. Burial will be at St. Philip Neri Catholic Cemetery, Napoleon.
Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, Napoleon.
Bernard "Ben" Fettig, son of Anton and Christina (Burkhart) Fettig, was born Nov. 27, 1924, in rural Logan County. Ben received his education at Weigel School No. 2 and attended Napoleon High School. Ben married Catherine "Katie" Weigel on Nov. 4, 1946, at
St. Boniface Catholic Church. They lived with her mother until the fall of 1948, when they purchased a farm north of Tappen. Ben was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church at Tappen and served on various committees and church boards. Ben had been a member of the Westford Township Board and the Tappen School Board.
They retired to Napoleon in December 1990. Ben enjoyed planting trees in the spring for the Logan County Soil Conservation and volunteering at the museum for several years. Ben entered the Napoleon Care Center in May 2009.
Ben is survived by 10 children, Alois (Mary) Fettig, Burnsville, Minn., Steven (Carla) Fettig, Bismarck, Jeffrey (Bonnie) Fettig, Tappen, Tommy Fettig, Lincoln, Marvin (Berdina) Fettig, Bismarck, Margaret (Larry) Doyle, Valley City, Mary (Gene) Hartl, New Rockford, Eileen (Doug) Knutson, West Fargo, Diana (Allen) Guthmiller, Bismarck, and Karri (Bryan) Stroh, Tappen; 23 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Emma Berg.
Ben was devoted to the care of his wife of 65 years, Catherine, who preceded him in death on Nov. 27, 2011. Also preceding him in death was one grandchild, Sara Catherine Fettig; his parents, Anton and Christina; his step-mother, Ottilia; two sisters, Barbara Borsum and Katie Schlosser; and five brothers, Phillip, Joe, John, Baltzer and Wendelyn.
