Bertha Barbot Obituary

Bertha Marie (Moynier) Barbot, the daughter of Marius and Adrienne (Florentine) Moynier, was born on July 4, 1920 in Santa Monica, Calif. She died at the age of 97 years on Feb. 7, 2018, at St. Francis Care Center in Breckenridge, Minn.

She was reared in the home of her parents and was the youngest of five children. Bertha attended St. Augustine School in Culver City, Calif., and Catholic Girls High School in Los Angeles, graduating in 1939. She completed her education at the Frank Wiggins Trade School for 3 ½ years in Los Angeles. Bertha took employment at Taylor Maid Blouses, a blouse factory in Los Angeles doing embroidery. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, a defense plant was built in Culver City, where Bertha was a drill press operator for 3 years.

Bertha met her future husband when her family visited old friends who resided in North Dakota. After several years of exchanging letters, she was united in marriage to John Floribert Barbot, a Rolette farmer, on March 5, 1946. Summers were spent in Rolette farming and winters at Culver City. In 1954, the couple settled in Rugby, where they raised their six children. For 40 years, Bertha volunteered at the Little Flower School in Rugby aiding in the lunch program, a foster grandmother to many of the students and helped in the library. She was a member of Little Flower Catholic Church, Christian Mothers and a former 4-H Leader. Bertha also enjoyed needle work, crocheting and in the summertime, relished the outdoors doing her year work.

Bertha's passion was making rosaries, a hobby she started when she was 35 when she repaired her mother's rosary. This mission of Berth's led her to make 75,000 rosaries by the age of 79. The following 18 years she made many thousands more, along with her sister rosary enthusiasts. She sent rosaries all over the world, many went to prisons, handed out at abortion clinics and school.

Bertha is survived by her children, Mary Anne (Rodney) Ekren of Bismarck; Jeannie Barbot of Fargo; Marguerite Bowie; and Colleen (Kevin) Paczkowski of Abercrombie; 14 grandchildren, Cynthia (Tim) Frederick; Stephanie (Craig) Kuntz; Jessica (Shawn) Bauer; Jenifer (Terry) Lauckner; Joseph (Jessica) Barbot; Julie (Ben) Sandstrom; Jared Barbot; Britt Lindquist; Gregory (Margie) Carlson; Jeffrey (Jacklyne) Carlson, Tabitha Wolfe; Angela Newkirk; Nicholas (Jasmine) Paczkowski; Shawn (Alexandra) Paczkowski and Alexander Paczkowski; 19 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
