Donald Arneson Obituary

Donald Dwight Arneson

July 21, 1952 - April 16, 2025

Donald Dwight Arneson, 72, of Bismarck, passed away peacefully April 16, 2025, at Millers Point, Mandan N.D.

There will be no services per his request.

Donald was the oldest, by five minutes, of twins born to Donald and Mae Arneson on July 21, 1952. They were the first twins born in Renville-Bottineau Memorial hospital. They were a great source of pride and joy to their parents.

Donald attended Sherwood Public School. He later obtained a degree in Hotel Management from Bismarck Jr College. He was quite proud of this accomplishment. He would go on to work for several businesses and individuals through the years.

Donald had many different interests and hobbies. He enjoyed watching and reading Science Fiction. Donald could also be found at the Bismarck library, reading a variety of periodicals and local newspapers. You learned not to call him in the afternoon.

He took great pleasure in being outdoors. He walked everywhere he went. It was not uncommon for Donald to walk to Mandan to visit his brother, Doug, or attend various events. He often rode his bike around Bismarck and Mandan.

He took great pride in growing plants that he often gifted to others. Donald took classes in Horticulture. Family would often call him for tips on how to care for their plants, especially if they weren't doing well (mostly his sister).

Donald gave family members pointers on cooking, especially if he didn't think it was quite right. He would often call his sisters with new recipes that he had tried and thought they should too. His tips on plants and cooking will be greatly missed.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brothers, Rodney Arneson of Denver, Colo., Wesley (Ramona) Arneson, Minot, N.D. and his twin, Douglas Arneson of Mandan, N.D. He is survived by two sisters, Karen (Preston) Greenlee of Shell Knob, Mo. and Kathy Haines of Dracut, Mass. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

"If tomorrow starts without me,

And I am not here to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes,

All filled with tears for me,

I wish so much you wouldn't cry,

The way you did today.

While thinking of the many things,

We didn't get to say.

I know how much you love me,

As much as I love you,

And each time you think of me, I know you miss me too.

Uncle I will miss you. I'm sorry we didn't see each other much since living in Colorado. My dad said as a child we used to make snow igloo but remember when we came to visit you'd ride a bike many places. You even explained your city cops pulled you over if riding too fast. Then saying wearing a suit at times would take notice at store and waiting too long instantly open lane for you. I also remember you showing your interests in planting flowers and upkeep them beautiful in downtown. I'm Rodney's daughter Dezaray. I wish I could remember if you've met my daughter Amber. If not hopefully you'll meet in heaven. Praying for rest of family threw your passing from Myself and grand daughter Jayla. Till we meet again...
