Eugene Thilmony Obituary

Eugene (Gene) Thilmony, 65, Mandan, died June 18, 2005, at home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, at Spirit of Life Catholic Church, Mandan, with the Rev. Cyprian Meier officiating. Burial will be at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, at Weigel Funeral Home, Mandan, with a vigil service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Eugene was born Sept. 12, 1939, in Valley City, the son of Albert and Marie (Zaun) Thilmony. He was raised and educated at Valley City, graduated from high school in 1957. In 1963 he married Janice Ludwig. He attended college at Valley City State College. He earned his teaching degree and taught industrial arts in Velva, Granville and Linton. As a veteran, Eugene served in the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard where he received an honorable discharge.

As an independent sales person, Eugene sold fire alarms. In 1983, he became partners with Terry Arp in Steel Salvage, Steele. They were partners until 2004, when he sold half of the salvage yard to Terry.

Some of his favorite recreation was hunting, fishing, buying and selling auto parts and cars. On Sundays he would visit the Medcenter One Care Center and play pinochle and help out the residents where needed. His dog, Misty would accompany him to the Care Center, so the residents could enjoy the companionship of a dog.

Eugene was active at Spirit of Life Church, serving as Eucharistic minister, a lector and helped with cursillo.

Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Thilmony, Boulder, Colo.; two sons, Todd, Bismarck, and Shawn, Mandan; one brother and sister-in-law, Lloyd and Margaret Thilmony; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marlene and Ed Straus, Wahpeton, and Cheryl Stegmeier, Mandan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James and Robert; and one brother-in-law, Ed.
