Patricia Melody passed away Friday, October 7th, 2022.
Pat didn't want an obituary. Therefore, we'll just call this a brief thank you for a wonderful life from friends who loved her, appreciated the depth of her friendship, the generosity of her heart and the humor that put a smile on our faces with every encounter.
Pat entered this world on September 27, 1926 in Orlando, Florida as the second child born to Duane Hadsell and Constance Follett. Pat left her home for new adventures, earning her degree in Social Work at the University of San Francisco. Later working at a medical practice in California and at CBS in New York.
Pat loved reflecting on her global travels. Milford Sound, on the southwest coast of New Zealand was her favorite. She loved and appreciated the arts. She loved the flowers that she grew. She even embraced the internet age and enjoyed communicating with family and friends via email.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, ex-husband George Melody, sisters June O'Driscoll, Suzanne Bolle and Nancy Dickson, nephew Kevin O'Driscoll.
Pat is survived by her brother in-law Robert Dickson, nieces Gail Ray and Linda O'Driscoll, nephews Robert, David and Sam Dickson, step-daughter Moya Melody, grand-niece Emily Ray Bishop and those friends who have adopted Pat into their lives as family.
Pat loved her time at the Foley Center in Blowing Rock. The writer of this brief thank you note was greatly impressed by the quality of care that Pat has received over the past 3-1/2 years. Especially thankful for the protection afforded to all residents during the Covid pandemic. As Pat struggled in her final days, the gentle, kind and compassionate care she received reflected a true love and concern for "Sweet Pat".
Pat has requested to be cremated and to have her ashes spread at Bass Lake, one of her favorite places to walk in Blowing Rock. Details to follow.

Patricia was such a good friend to my husband Craig and me for years. I miss her so much. We played cards every week and had lunch together and many wonderful chats.
