D. EDELSTEIN Obituary

EDELSTEIN, D. Sybil Of Dedham, MA and Waban, MA, passed away on Friday, January 19, 2024, at the age of 97, following a short illness. Born in Providence, RI in 1926, she grew up in East Greenwich, RI. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island, summa cum laude, with a Bachelor's of Science in Education and a Bachelor's of Science in Sociology. She taught school in Rhode Island and practiced social work in Boston before raising her family.

Sybil was the daughter of the late Gertrude (Lintz) and Morris Abrams; and sister of the late Bettye Glen. Sybil was married to the late Alan Martin Edelstein for 68 years. She was the devoted mother of Dr. Marcia Edelstein Herrmann and her husband Jeff of West Newton, MA and of Dr. David R. Edelstein and his wife Eve Lesser of New York, NY. She was the doting grandmother of Dr. Melissa Herrmann Bergman and her husband Daniel, Jennifer Edelstein Scott and her husband Dean, Jonathan Herrmann and his wife Ran Yan, Hilary Edelstein Studin and her husband Daniel, and Matthew Edelstein and his wife Jamie Denenberg. She leaves 5 cherished great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services at Temple Emanuel and Burial at Sharon Memorial Park were held privately by the family.

Donations in Sybil's memory may be made to the Alan and Sybil Edelstein Lectureship in Professionalism and Ethics in Medicine at the Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine or to Understanding Our Differences in Newton, MA.
