Edward BACKOFF Obituary

BACKOFF, Edward H. Of San Diego, CA, formerly of Tewksbury and Medford, MA, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at the age of 84. He was born in Boston, MA on June 29, 1940, the son of the late Edwin and Mildred (Sullivan) Backoff.

Eddie graduated from Tewksbury High School and Essex Agricultural School, prior to joining the U.S. Army, where he proudly served as an Army Medic. After working as a mailman in Medford for 30 years, Eddie retired to San Diegeo, CA.

He was an avid traveler, always on the go in Europe, the U.S. or locally in his custom van. He loved to tell stories of his travels and of his escapades in the Army with his many friends.

Eddie was preceded in death by his sisters, Janet Backoff and Patricia "Patsy" Chinchillo and her husband, Gary Chinchillo; and by his brother-in-law, John McShane. He is survived by his sisters, Marie and her husband, Richard Ellison of Hingham, MA and Mildred "Mickie" McShane of Harvard, MA; as well as many much-loved nieces and nephews.

We are so very sorry to hear that Eddie has passed away. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Backoff family who have been through a lot in the last few months. My mother loved Eddie!
