This is sad news indeed. By coincidence I was emailing a colleague about chess and Formula One and I thought I would look up Ed to see if he was still active he chess. He taught me how to play when I was about 12.

I was sad to learn of Ed's passing this morning. My sisters and I remember him with fondness, as we do also with Shirley. He lived a good long life, but it is still hard when the end comes. Thinking of you, Shirley, at this sad time. Sincerely, Gwen, Claire and Marilyn - ie the Harold and Sybil Johns' daughters and also Peter Shragge, Claire's husband who also knew Ed. Ed and I shared the same birthday (July 21) and he was ten years older than my Clive, who passed away in 2020. May Ed rest in peace and may your memories be a blessing.

Dear Shirley,

I am very sad to hear Dr. Epp´s passing. My deepest condolences.

Dr. Epp hired me as a medical physics postdoctoral fellow at MGH back in 1992. He gave me kind guidance during my two years at MGH. I am deeply indebted to his mentorship and friendship during the beginning of my medical physics career. I will always remember him as a kind mentor and a great leader.

May he rest in peace.
God Bless.

Ed Epp was a giant of medical physics and radiation bioeffects. His work resulted in many thousands, perhaps millions of quality years of life for people, past, present, and future. Hopefully his wife and others who shared part of their lives with him will take comfort in his long, meaningful life.
