DE VOS, Edward Surrounded by family and full of love, Ed De Vos passed away the morning of Friday, August 22, 2025, from Lymphoma and COVID complications. Ed was born on June 18, 1948, in Brooklyn, New York to Shirley and Jack De Vos. A Brooklyn boy through and through, Ed also loved his time at his grandparents' country home in New Jersey. He graduated from Midwood High school in 1966 and moved to Boston for college at MIT where he graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor's Degree in anthropology and physics, followed by a Doctorate in Education from Harvard University. Passionate about his life's work and making a difference in his community, Ed worked to advance evidence-based practice in violence prevention and related policy. He served as Principal Investigator on more than thirty research projects, consulted with governments on three continents, authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, and made frequent presentations. Ed spent eighteen years at the Education Development Center (EDC), where he was the Director of the Center for Injury and Violence Prevention and the Founding Chair of EDC's Institutional Review Board. He loved teaching research and statistics, and he did so at Tufts University, Boston University School of Medicine, and at the Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology/William James College, where he taught a combined total of more than a thousand students over the course of thirty-five years. Ed's passions extended beyond work – he nurtured his connections in the synagogue community at Temple Beth Zion, loved music, good food, photography, the arts, writing (recently starting a Substack), drumming, and learning the piano. His keen intellect, eye for beauty, curiosity, and sense of humor were unmatched. Ed is survived by his beloved wife Judy Schechtman, his daughters Erica, Sarah and her husband Jeff Drouin, grandchildren Charlie, Jack and Mira, his sister Randi Bolos and her husband Jon, brother-in-law Joe Schechtman and wife Lauren, and numerous friends, colleagues, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Michael Schechtman and sister-in-law Rachel Schechtman. Ed was a loving and devoted family man. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, August 24, at 11:30 am at Temple Beth Zion (1566 Beacon St., Brookline, MA) with burial to follow. The family will observe Shiva Sunday and Monday evenings from 5:30 – 8:00 pm. Donations in Ed's memory can be made to Dr. Philippe Armand's Research Fund at the
