We just learned of your father's passing and was saddened to have not attended any of the services. We have many great memories of your family. Our prayers are with you and especially your Mom. A family member also had Alzeimer's disease so we understand the special trials for you. Please know that we are thinking of you.

To the Gildea Family.
It is with regret that we were unable to attend George's services, but a family situation (My Sister Carolyn)
required that we be with her in her time of need.
It is indeed rare that one knows someone else for more than 70 years as is the case with george and I. We first met whenGeorge came to Vermont to spend the summer after his sister (Kay) and my uncle (Herbert)were married. George was the older and wiser brother for my brother Fran and I. A lot of time was spent climbing around the old sawmill and the various
barns of my grandparents. George was less accustomed to these activities than Fran and I, and seemed to get hung
up on things more, nothing serious, just scrapes and bruises. Later in life George admitted telling us that if we didn't do things his way, he was going home and we just couldn't let that happen. This was the start of a great relationship that has lasted 70+
years. After the mid and late 1930's
we only saw each other at family weddings and the like until Stratton got going. By the way George proposed to Kathleen on hill overlooking the old
family homestead.
The Gildea family had the second home on Stratton and we started to see more of George, Kay and the ever growing
Gildea family. The Stratton golf course was started and George was member # 13 with play starting in 1966.
One could always complete a foursome from the Gildea family. We will never forget the evenings at Liftline Lodge
and waiting for Herbie to finish in the kitchen and help start a new round of stories, especially Irish jokes.
There never will be anyone better at telling Irish stories than George Gildea. One golf story sticks in my mind, George and his parnet were playing
in Stratton Men's Member quest and were up against a couple of rules lawyers and even going into the last hole all even. The opponent's drive went far to the right and was not found
and George and partner won the match.
On the way back to Canton later in the day George stopped by the 9th hole lake, went down to the rough, picked up the lost ball, he had found it while
looking earlier and as he said,(I heeled it).
George and I played in a couple of Stratton Member Guests in his last years of playing and thanks to him we won one and placed very well the other time. Again we had to find a couple of rules lawyers (no heeling this time). When I play with Dave McKenna,
we are both reminded of the fun times
we all had on the golf course.
Memories that will linger forever.
The last time we saw George and Kay was
when they came to Vermont for a Foliage
tour, we went to Stowe via the tourist route in rather unpleasant rainy weather, but we still got a lot of photo's and as always a lot of conversation (including Irish Jokes).
I cherish the times we had together and
I hope I am a better person for having
known George T. Gildea.
God bless you all and take care of Mom.

To the Gildea family: the McGowan family from Hull is praying for you. We didn't directly know your father, but Dr. William Sullivan did. He's Eileen (Sullivan) McGowan's uncle. Ellen and Eileen discovered years ago in Hull that Dr. Gildea fixed the Sullivans' teeth and Dr. Sullivan fixed the Gildeas' bones...small world. We share also a loss: Dr. Sullivan's sister (Sister Julienne, SND) passed away two days after your father, and while looking for her notice, we came across your father's. Bless you all.
