BROWNING, Dr. Grainger Sr. Formerly of Cambridge, Sun., July 18. Devoted husband for 66 years of Esther Merriman Browning. Beloved father of Rev. Dr. Grainger Browning Jr. (his wife Rev. Dr. Jo Ann Browning), and Elder Cornelia Browning Moore; he also leaves 2 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Funeral service Tuesday, August 1. The Wake will be held 9 am until 11am and the funeral at 11am, both at Union Baptist Church, 874 Main St., Cambridge. Interment Mt. Auburn Cemetery.

My deepest sympathy to the Browning family during this time of lost. Dr. Browning was a very inspirational man whom motivated so many young people to overcome challenges in their life that seemed so overwhelming by helping them to learn how to change their perspective on an issue by simply embracing the challenge so you can overcome it. I share those same wise words of wisdom now with those who face challenges that they find overwhelming. God is so Good!

It is with tremendous sadness and my deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Grainger Browning, Sr.
I met Dr. Grainger Browning at Fitchburg State University in Fitchburg, MA when I was a student there back in 1980. He was a brilliant professor, gifted, genuine and deeply devoted to his teaching, his students and his family. Dr. Browning was a great advisor, not only to me but to countless students and we benefited greatly from his professional wisdom.
My first semester on campus, I could not find a work study job on campus and my family was not in a position to support me financially. Dr. Browning saw the look of concern on my face and quickly figured out what was wrong. A couple of days later, his wife, Mrs. Esther Browning called me and said they were looking for a housekeeper and if I was interested. I accepted the offer right away. Not only did the Browning's paid me well but Mrs. Browning always made sure I had a good home cooked meal before leaving. I will always and forever be grateful to both Dr. Browning and Mrs. Esther Browning.

To the family of Dr. Grainger Browning, Sr.; Please accept my sincere condolence in the transitioning of your loved one. At Hampton University I was fortunate to have had him as an instructor. We were reacquainted when he began his fellowship with First Baptist Church Hampton. We spent moments on several Sundays after church joyfully reminiscing about Hampton in the 1960's. Dr. Browning was a true inspiration and he will be missed. I pray God's grace and mercy will comfort and sustain each of you for all time.
