HUGH TAYLOR Obituary

TAYLOR, Hugh M. Of Duxbury, died peacefully in the presence of loving family members on June 21, 2018 after a courageous six-year battle with multiple myeloma. Hugh and his beloved wife and best friend, Maureen, had recently celebrated 47 years of marriage. He was proud of, and adored, his sons Patrick, Andrew, and Daniel; daughters-in-law Julie and Colleen; and seven grandchildren, Riley, Mika, Maddy, Zadie, Jonathan (JT), Meret, and Bekele. Though bittersweet, his family takes comfort knowing that he is now enjoying time with his son Jonathan. Hugh embraced life and was loved and admired by many. He grew up in Oak Square in Brighton, the son of George and Dorothy Taylor and brother to George and Richard Taylor and Eileen Flynn. He attended Boston English High School and was nominated by Tip O'Neill to the United States Naval Academy, where he excelled as a student. Hugh was commissioned as an officer and, after a year at sea, spent two years serving his country in Vietnam, including a year as Officer in Charge of a swift boat (PFC-91) in Qui Nhom. Upon his return to Boston, Hugh continued in active duty at the Boston Naval Shipyard in Charlestown before pursuing his MBA at Boston College's Carroll School of Management where he was a Wall Street Journal Scholar. He went on to a successful career in the Boston banking industry, first at New England Merchants Bank, where he became an Executive Vice President, and later as Managing Director of Newbury, Piret & Co. Along the way, he started several businesses and served on the boards of numerous public and private companies. Hugh also continued to serve in the US Naval Reserves until his retirement at the rank of Commander. Hugh's many professional obligations and accomplishments never distracted him spending time with his family, with whom he enjoyed many weekends and vacations skiing in New Hampshire and boating in Duxbury Bay on the "Four Buoys." He loved golf and was an avid reader, and regular gatherings with his extended family were a joy to him. A large-hearted and generous man, Hugh had many friends and no shortage of stories to share. Having had a taste of the seafaring life in the Navy, he always cherished his time on or near the water, and he would eventually become Commodore of the Duxbury Yacht Club, a post he enjoyed immensely. His positive attitude, hope, and courage were an inspiration to all who knew him. His family will forever appreciate the exceptional care and attention that he received at Mass General Hospital, particularly from Jill Burke, N.P., and Dr. Noopur Raje, and by Norwell VNA. A Funeral Mass to celebrate Hugh's life will be held on Saturday, June 30, 2018 at Holy Family Church in Duxbury at 10:00 a.m. The Taylor family will receive relatives and friends outside the church beginning at 9:45 a.m. In lieu of flowers, gifts in Hugh's memory may be made to the "MGH Multiple Myeloma Program" online at giving.massgeneral.org or by mail at Massachusetts General Hospital c/o Development Office, Attn: Tyrone Latin, 125 Nashua St., Ste 540, Boston, MA 02114. Hi Maureen,
My condolences on the passing of Hugh. I have been down in Naples since 2010 and have been out of touch. I heard about your son, Jonathan, 25 years ago, (Andrew was also 22 at the time), my condolences for him also. I heard it happened while visiting his brother, and it took a lot out of Hugh.
I hope all is well with your family and Jimmy and his family, and of course George and Eileen.
I´ve had enough of Florida and since my Andrew and his partner are expecting their first child in a month, I´m heading back to Boston in a couple of weeks.

Dear Maureen and Family, We were all so sad to learn of Hugh's passing. Your husband, dad, and brother served his country and family well. Although I was only in his presence on rare occasion, his storytelling ability and the manner in which he related to people was inimitable. It's no wonder he was successful in building such a wonderful family and in business. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of loss.

Maureen & Family

Lee & I are so sorry for your loss. We are away this month but please know our thoughts are with you.

Hugh was the best. In early 90's he helped me work my way thru some tough business times. I am pretty sure he was from Our Lady's in Brighton probably no more than 4 miles where I grew up. He certainly did Brighton proud.

What a terrific and magnanimous person he was.

We will all miss him and should all take splice in knowing Hugh.

Hugh presented the Jonathan Taylor award to Brad Marcotte in 2014, Brad just graduated from Ohio Weselyan where he played lacrosse. 48-11

So very sorry to hear this news.I never think of my childhood and adolescent summers in Buttermilk Bay without remembering the Taylors. We had a wonderful time together and there was never a sweeter guy than Hugh (Huey)Taylor. His numerous successes...with his family and career.....come as no surprise to me.
Sincere condolences to his family from
