JAMES D. SULLIVAN M.D.

Sullivan, James D., MD Of West Roxbury, formerly of Medfield, on September 30, 2014. Devoted son of the late James E. and Helen (McCarthy) Sullivan. Beloved husband of Mary L. "Lucy" Feild. Proud and loving father of nine children: James W. and his wife Jeanne of Medfield, Dr. Timothy and his wife Carole of Southlake, Texas, Peter and his wife Lisa of Palo Alto, CA, Ann MacAndrew and her husband Joseph of Westerly, Rl, Michael and his wife Gloria of Westborough, Mary Stein and her husband Otto of Bozeman, MT, Daniel of Dover and Shanghai, Kathleen Dugan and her husband James of Gladstone, NJ, and Maureen Chambers and her husband Cory of Frankfort, IL. Also survived by his cherished 19 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jim was a WW II Navy veteran and a graduate of Tufts College and Medical School. He was privileged to practice internal medicine in Medfield for over 42 years. A strong advocate for quality education, he served on the Medfield School Committee for six years, including two years as chairperson. He enjoyed many memorable adventures wilderness canoeing in Maine and Canada with his children and friends. He was an accomplished model ship builder, an amateur baritone horn player, an avid reader, and a genealogy aficionado. Those who knew him will miss his affable manner, compassion, and quick Irish wit. In retirement, he delighted in sharing his expertise in U.S. History as a guest lecturer at Catholic Memorial High School in West Roxbury. Visiting hours will be held at Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Miller St., MEDFIELD, on Sunday, October 5, 2014, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Susanna Church, 262 Needham St., Dedham, at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 6, 2014. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's name to the Catholic Memorial School, 235 Baker St, West Roxbury, MA 02132, would be most appreciated.
