To the Nystrom family. I was a breast cancer patient of Dr. Nystrom at Tufts Medical center. I felt so lucky to have him as my oncologist. He was patient and always made me feel as if I had nothing to worry about. I felt as if I were in the best hands. I was sad when he told me he was retiring. Now I am devastated to hear that he passed away so soon after his retirement. My condolences go out to his wife especially, and his entire family. He was one special doctor.

Dear Gail,Jenny & Wendy,
I have missed your husband & Dad so much since he left the Great Lakes Practice.I enjoyed working with him every day and as a Nurse I learned from Him every day. He was a great Doctor,so intelligent & a memory bar none. I was always amazed when he would cite sometrhing he read about a disase years ago & relate it to one he was treating now. And oh that sense of humor!!!it took a while to get used to it. And I remember the wonderful storeis he would tell us,he made them so interesting & funny that one day I told him that when he retired he should write a book - it would have been great. I don't remember which of you girls did filing at our office on 8 Mile, but you were always so pleasent & a pleasure to work with.
Your Dad was so thoughtful as to call me when my second Husband died 6 years ago. My Prayers are with all of you. You have beautiful memories of him to help you through this emotional time. My deepest regards,

To the Nystrom Family,
Today I received the sad news that Dr, Nystrom had passed away, it brought tears to my eyes. I was a cancer patient of his 30 years ago at St. Johns Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. At the time I was treated I was only 15 years old. Dr, Nystrom always took his time with me and explained everything in detail to ease the fear. I was in the hospital for over 6 weeks. One of my fondest memories was each evening he would walk by my room with his trench coat and say, "everything is going to be fine". He would talk about his daughters to me whom at that time were my age. I was so young but he had a special way about him that has lasted forever in my heart. Two years later my father was diagnosed with cancer and Dr. Nystrom was also his Doctor. Unfortunately, my father passed away within weeks. The evening my father passed away Dr. Nystrom was there to help me through the difficult time and even came to the funeral home.
Dr.Nystrom had such passion for his patients and was truly blessed to touch so many lives. He really lived his true calling in life.
My deepest prayers go out to the entire Nystrom Family.

Dr. Nystrom is missed very much.
I trained under him as his fellow at the cancer of unknown primary clinic at Tufts. Dr. Nystrom was an excellent oncologist, educator and mentor. He received numerous patient referrals from regional physicians with complex cases. His colleagues, fellows and patients loved and admired him and appreciated his warmth and wit.
Dr. Nystrom was not just an excellent doctor but a good person and a gentleman. We offer our sympathies and prayers.

It has been 20 years since I had contact with Dr Nystrom. He treated my deceased husband for 6 years when he was diagnosed with Mutiple Myeloma in Detroit, Michigan. At that time Dr. Nystrom had a practice with St. John Hospital, Detroit.
Dr Nystrom cared and thought highly of my husband. They joked and carried on like young boys. He wrote me the most tender, sweet letter after my husband passed. He was the first guest in line to pay his respects at the funeral home.
I will remember him forever.
As a coincidence he later became the Director of the Board of MSHO, Michigan Society of Hematology, Oncology and my daughter works for this organization under the direction of a Director in Royal Oak, MI.
I do not see that Michigan is mentioned in Dr. Nystrom's Obituary but he was there and loved dearly.
My condolences to his family.
