Joe Bateman known to me as “Coach Batemen” was an amazing man who I shared many memories with. Joe coached my babe ruth team for the tri town (Middleton, Boxford, and topsfield) when I was a 7th and 8th grader. His knowledge of the game and the ability to be there for you and teach you about everyday life was unmatched. We shared many memories and connections through the cape league, as I was a bat boy for the YD red sox and my teammate was also a bat boy for the Brewster Whitecaps. I am so deeply saddened by his passing however the words “here we go babe” as any one of us would step up to the plate will always live in my head. Often Joe would show pictures of his son playing baseball at huge stadiums, I think one of them might have been fenway. He used to love talking about him and all the experiences and how good of a ball player he was. Every time we stepped on the field and knew Joe had his wooden folding chair and his notepad we knew we were going to have many laughs together. Rest In Peace Coach Bateman I know you are looking down on my family and I.

Dear Joe
I had the honor of coaching with you and loved your stories.
Myself and my son Conor have been with Cape Baseball for 14 years and you immediately realized that Conor was a cape baseball batboy and at 16 yr old scout for KC. Joe and I would talk on the phone about the cape and Conors future.
God I loved talking to Joe whenever I could.
I’m sorry I just found out late of his passing but Conor and I and several people will long remember Joe Bateman.
RIP Joe and hope to see you again
Buy me some peanuts and cracker Jacks.
