June H. Long

Age 83, of West Yarmouth, died Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Cape Cod Hospital. She was born in Holyoke, daughter of the late John A. and Florence Kube (Fisher) Long, graduated from Holyoke High School, Simmons College in Boston, and received a Masters Degree In Nursing Education from the University of Chicago. A registered nurse, she served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in London and Vienna during World War II. June was the longtime director of the Practical Nurse Education Program at Hartford Hospital, retiring in 1982. She had lived in Glastonbury and Cromwell, Connecticut before moving to Eastham, MA upon retirement. She is survived by a brother David C. Long and his wife Karen of Eastham, a sister, Katherine Lavelle and her husband Phillip of Jamaica Plain section of Boston, a lifelong friend Joan Fogt of West Yarmouth and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, John A. Long, Jr. and James E. Long. The funeral will be held Monday morning at 9:15 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, HOLYOKE, MA, followed by a Mass in St Patrick's Chapel of St Jerome Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke. A calling hour will be held Monday morning only from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of ones choice.
