LAWRENCE MCMENAMY Obituary

McMENAMY, Lawrence "Larry" Of Boston, formerly of Brockton and Duxbury, died peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on September 6, 2024. Larry was born and raised in Brockton, where his family successfully operated McMenamy Seafood for many years. He attended Loyola College in Montreal. Larry had an innate talent for sales. From selling vacuum cleaners to typewriters, to helping run the family's fish market alongside his father, his ability to connect with others was extraordinary. His relationships with others was the foundation of his life, making him a natural choice as a leader in all fields. Larry's professional leadership with reputable companies, such as IBM and Lotus Development, brought him to new spaces and cultures, including Europe and other Western countries. In addition to having traveled across the world professionally, Larry and his wife, Karen, carried on his family's legacy, by opening and successfully running their own family fish market in Kingston: McMenamy's Seafood. In retirement, Larry pursued many of his other lifelong interests. He earned his Master Captain's Boating license, allowing him to run the airport water shuttle and the local boat launch. He was a regular golfer and friend to the Marshfield Country Club. He also worked parking cars at his favorite ski mountain, Mount Cranmore in New Hampshire. Larry and his wife, Karen, were active parishioners of St. Cecelia's in Boston. They participated in community outreach with organizations such as My Brother's Keeper, Catholic Charities and the Pine Street Inn. Larry's charismatic personality is what everyone will remember him by. He was the light in every room he entered. He was positive, energetic, inclusive, insightful and incredibly comical. He never failed to show how much family and friends meant to him, his life's work was spent on maintaining and enjoying his relationships with others. He was an exuberantly proud parent and grandfather, leaving everyone he met with unconditional, unforgettable love. Beloved husband of Karen M. (Ritchie) McMenamy for 55 years. Loving father of Kerry McMenamy and her partner, Stephan Nappellio of Brookfield, NH, Ryan McMenamy and his husband, James Keating of New York, NY, Matthew and his wife, Kathryn McMenamy of Milton and Erin and her husband, Philip Roberts of Duxbury. Devoted "grandpa" of Jack, Luke and Grace Herlihy, Abby, Frank and Edie McMenamy and Claire, Lou and Anna Roberts. Son of the late Louis and Lorraine (Billadeau) McMenamy. Brother of Kathleen Avery, Maureen Fahey, Richard McMenamy, Davis McMenamy, Dennis McMenamy and the late Louis McMenamy, Ann Cirelli and Patricia McMenamy. Larry is also survived by the Ritchie/Cannon family and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends will honor and remember Larry's life by gathering for Visiting Hours in the Murphy Funeral Home, 1020 Dorchester Ave., DORCHESTER, on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 3:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Cecilia Church, 18 Belvidere Street, Boston, on Wednesday morning, September 18, at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be private. Karen and Family, the beautiful obituary written in Larry's honor, captured his spirit and vitality perfectly. He always brought a smile and an intelligent observation. He loved his family and was proud of each of them. I'm proud to say that Larry was my friend and I'll miss him.
