MORTIMER KAUFMAN Obituary

KAUFMAN, Mortimer "Morty" Of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Mashpee, MA, formerly of Weston, MA and Burlington, VT, entered into rest August 11th. He was 86. Beloved husband of the late Rhoda (Fine). Devoted father of Mark and Julie (Scovell) Kaufman, Brian and Patty (Adams) Kaufman, and Karen Kaufman and Kelly Bonnevie. Loving brother of Stanley Kaufman. Cherished grandfather (“Bumpa”) of Eric and Cori (Rosenberg) Kaufman, Adam and Molly (Hoch) Kaufman, Kyle, Derek, Matthew, Caroline and Abigail. Great grandfather of Harper and Quinn. He also leaves behind his companion, Carol Cleveland. He also leaves behind his devoted health aide, Dinah Alexis. Morty is the son of the late Irving and Edith (Agel) Kaufman. A native of Burlington, Vermont, he graduated from UVM where he was captain of the golf team. He went undefeated in individual golf matches throughout high school and college. In 1951, Kaufman left UVM to serve with the 134th Fighter Interception Squadron during the Korean War. He returned to UVM after his tour of duty and graduated in 1954. Morty was Vermont State Collegiate Champion and three time medalist in the VT State Amateur Championship. Morty and Rhoda raised their family in South Burlington, VT, later relocating to Weston, MA. An entrepreneur, Morty founded a real estate development firm. In 1999, he was inducted into the University of Vermont Hall of Fame. Morty was also an accomplished competitive sailor who raced both on Lake Champlain and in the Southern Ocean Racing Conference. A graveside service will be held MONDAY, August 15th at 11:00AM at Linwood Cemetery, 190 Boston Post Road By-Pass, WESTON. Memorial Observance will be held at the home of Mark and Julie Kaufman 306 Dahlia Dr., Wayland, MA from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
