NANCY SANG Obituary

Sang, Nancy S.M. (Hou) Age 87, of Brookline, passed away after a brief illness on June 6, 2014. Devoted wife of the late Heng-Kang Sang; mother of Delia N. Sang and her husband, Mark S. Hughes, of Brookline; Daniel N. Sang and his partner, Eleanor H. Powers, of New York, NY; and Christine N. Sang and her husband B. Kemp Dolliver, of Cambridge. She is survived by her beloved sisters, Diana H. Yeh and Evelyn H. Huang, and her dear brothers, David H. Hou and Roger H. Hou. Beloved grandmother of Michael S. Hughes and Alexandra S. Dolliver and dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Prior to moving to Brookline, she was a resident of Jamaica Estates, New York. Mrs. Sang enjoyed Chinese history and arts, animated political discussions, classical poetry, and Western and Chinese orchestral and chamber music, and was an avid patron of local Chinese Opera in the greater Boston area and, prior to that, the Peking Opera Society in New York. Not only did she enjoy many years as Principal of the International Chinese School in New York, but she taught Chinese language classes at the United Nations and at the Chinese Language Learning Center in Manhattan, and also introduced Chinese-American students to their cultural heritage during their first trips to China with the Inter Pacific Company. Mrs. Sang performed volunteer work at the New York University Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine. She served on the Friends' of the Queens' Library Committee in Flushing, New York, and was a longtime advocate of lecture and concert programs at the library, as well as being active in campaigning for their fund-raising and legislative efforts for library funding. Family and friends will honor and remember Mrs. Sang's life on Saturday, June 21st from 9 to 11:30 a.m., at Lehman, Reen, and McNamara, Funeral Home 63 Chestnut Hill Avenue,(nr. Brighton Courthouse) BRIGHTON. Interment will follow at the Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Sang's memory may be made to The Nancy Sang Memorial Education Fund, Hebrew Senior Life-Development Office, 1200 Centre Street, Boston, MA 02131.
