PETER TRIPP Obituary

TRIPP, Dr. Peter David Born February 1, 1993, tragically took his own life on April 13, 2022. Peter was a resident of Washington, D.C., and grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts. He is survived by his parents, Barry & Jennifer Tripp of Arlington; his brothers Michael, Cameron, and Henry; and his partner, Dr. Chelsea Van Thof and their dalmatian Hugo. Additionally, Peter is survived by his maternal grandmother, Jeanne (Todaro) Cronin, of Watertown, and his paternal grandfather, John Tripp and his wife Lynda of Taunton. He was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, David Cronin, of Watertown and his paternal grandmother, Patricia (Casey) Tripp, of Taunton. Peter attended Arlington, Massachusetts, public schools, Class of 2011, and graduated with a degree in Biomedical Science from the University of New Hampshire in 2015. In 2019, Peter earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, where he met Chelsea. Shortly after graduating from Cummings Peter and Chelsea drove across the United States and started their professional careers at the Town and Country Animal Clinic in Brookings, Oregon. Here Peter honed his professional skills on everything from pet tortoises to beef cattle, and he and Chelsea spent time enjoying the great outdoors of southern Oregon and northern California. Most recently Peter was employed in Washington, D.C., at District Veterinary Hospital, Brookland. Peter lived a life of love, joy, and service. Peter's calm demeanor and kindness made him a great big brother to Michael, Cameron, and Henry. He was always teaching them new board games that would entertain them all for hours. Peter's interests included hiking, reading, watching bad movies, and playing any kind board game, but especially Dungeons & Dragons. His gentleness also made him wonderful with animals, whether that was a ladybug, hamster, cat, dog, or cow. Peter was dependable - if he said he would be there he would -whether that was for an early morning shift at the UNH Dairy Barn, the late night feeding at the Tufts barn during lambing season, or driving to the Nickerson State Park during a severe thunder storm to meet his family for a camping trip. The name Peter means "the rock," and it fit him perfectly. He was dependable, and someone others could always lean on. He was always the first to offer help with a smile and "no problem." Those who love him are heartbroken that he was so adept at helping others but was somehow unable to ask for help for himself. As part of his seemingly endless service to others, Peter was a regular donor of platelets while at Cummings school, donating every two weeks despite the rigorous academic requirements for a DVM. Further, Peter registered with BeTheMatch.Org as a bone marrow donor, and while on their cross-country trek after graduation from Cummings School, Peter received a call notifying him that he was a match for a candidate in need of bone marrow. Peter joyfully agreed and delayed this start of his post-graduation employment to undergo the procedure that he understood could save another person's life. If you would like to honor Peter's life, we ask that you engage in sustaining acts of service to others. Donate blood or platelets on a regular basis. If you are a healthy individual between the ages 18 and 35, consider registering as a potential bone marrow donor at BeTheMatch.org. Others can donate financially or look for an opportunity to volunteer. At Peter's request we are forgoing a Wake and Funeral Service. A Celebration of Peter's Life will be held at a future date.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr Tripp over the last few years and I was always so impressed. To his family and friends- I´m terribly sorry for your loss. His dedication to his craft, positive attitude and intellectual curiosity were incredible. He reminded me of the best parts of being a vet. I imagine there was not an animal on this earth that didn´t love him. Well, maybe a spicy cat or two... as for the rest of us, Dr Tripp will always be dearly remembered.
