In 1969, Lechmere was sold to the Dayton-Hudson Corporation, (the predecessor of Target Corporation). The "old guard, who turned their father's dream into not just a reality, but the institution that was Lechmere Sales. Phil was an important part of that which made retailing history. "88" is not just good luck in Asian cultures. "88" was a way of life. Phil was a master merchant who helped make "88" mean something important in so many lives. I know he was intrumental in teaching me about buying and merchadising. I thank you Phil, from the bottom of my heart.
