RANDALL KEZAR Obituary

KEZAR, Randall Alvah Of Kingston, NH, age 87, died of natural causes, on April 23, after a brief illness. Randy, as he was known, was born on June 12, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY and was the son of Margaret Morgan Post Kezar and Randall Adelbert Kezar. He grew up in Williamstown, MA. Randy was a graduate of Deerfield Academy, class of '54 and went on to earn a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering at M.I.T., class of '58. In 1962, he took a break from his graduate work at Northeastern University to hitchhike across the world, including a bicycle trip the length of Thailand. Upon his return, he earned a Masters degree in Mathematics and started a career as a research engineer, later becoming a computer programmer. In 1964, he married Lucy Paine and lived in Cambridge, MA until moving to Kingston, NH. Randy loved nature and was an avid hiker and skier. Tuckerman's Ravine on Mt. Washington was a favorite getaway in the spring when conditions permitted. Randy became a private pilot so he could fly over the mountains he had climbed so many times. For many years, he flew gliders when conditions permitted. Randy had an extensive interest in literature and art. He taught himself French to read countless literature classics in the original French as well as to visit France and ski in the Alps. After retiring, he attended UNH taking countless classes, spanning a range of topics from French, Literature, Modern Greek, Marine Biology and Political Science. For many years, Randy was a volunteer teaching mathematics to GED candidates and for the Alternatives to Violence Program in Rockingham County prisons and local schools. Randy was a member of Dover Friends' Meeting (Quaker) since 1985 and worked on human rights and peace issues in the community. As someone who loved food and cooking, Randy was involved with several soup kitchens. Randy never stopped learning. Randy is survived by his amazing wife, Lucy; son, Randy; daughter-in-law, Michelle; and granddaughters, Ramona and Clara. He was preceded in death by his son, Amory. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders on his behalf. A Memorial Service to celebrate his life is scheduled for June 29, 2024, at 1:00pm, at the Friends Meeting House (Quaker), in Dover, NH.
