RICHARD JANDL Obituary

Jandl, Richard L. Passed away peacefully on July 29 at the age of 90 in his home town, Racine WI. His three children, Rae Fortin of Bradford, MA, Will Jandl of Brookline, NH, and James Jandl of Lexington, MA were at his side. Along with his children and their spouses he is survived by his sister, Dorothy Lingsweiler, Racine, WI, his brother, Robert Jandl, Racine, WI and seven grandchildren. Prior to WWII he attended The Citadel and graduated from the University of Wisconsin after returning from the service. He also received a graduate degree from the Harvard Business School. His executive management career included roles as CEO, Velcro Inc.; Executive Director, New England Aquarium; Director of Marketing, United Shoe Machinery, Corp; Executive Director, Union Hospital in Lynn, MA. He was a co-founder and principal of McKenna Jandl Associates, pioneers in the executive outplacement industry. A resident of the Boston area, he had most recently returned to live in his home town of Racine, WI after a number of retirement years in Camarillo, CA. A highly decorated WWII veteran, "Dick" served with the OSS in occupied France and in Burma. He enjoyed travel, gardening and was an avid fisherman making numerous trips to Central America, Baja and the Gulf Coast to catch and release big game salt water species. As it was his wish, no wake or funeral service is scheduled. His request was that for those who would be inclined to celebrate his life, not his death, in their own personal manner.

Just learned of Dick"s passing. The world has lost a gentle, joyful soul. As a boss in Lynn, he was tough, fair, and always considerate. Fond memories of deep sea fishing, followed by fabulous sea food dinners, with Dick and his family are embedded within me. Although we lost touch in recent years, I will forever be grateful for the years of friendship we experienced.

Jandl family: My wife and I met Dick through mutual friends while on a Canal cruise in France about '94, '95. We were shipmates by chance, and over the course of 2 weeks became fast friends. Though living on different coasts at the time we managed to continue our friendship. Though he moved to our town of Camarillo, CA after we had retired to northern CA, we maintained contact, visiting back and forth. in addition to being a high level achiever, he was a most enjoyable personality and great story teller. We maintained contact via email after he moved back to Racine. We miss hearing from him.
