From my childhood in the 1960's, I remember a friendly, kind-spirited woman who lived on Third St. "Mrs. McCarty" as she was called endeared herself to my Grandmother, the late Hazel O'Connor, just by being herself.
Rest in peace Ruthie.

I have such nice memories of Ruthie or affectionately called Toodles by my family. I have fond memories of her visits to my house and attending many family functions. My father and Ruthie being first cousins often told stories of what life was like when they were younger, he being older often looked after her. Toodles was kind, caring and full of fun. She was a good listener who was so easy to talk to. For me Toodles is an end of an era, but many wonderful memories will remain.
Please accept my deepest sympathy in the passing of your Mom and Grand-Mother, she was a great Lady.
Love,
Elaine (McGrath) & Del DiFonso

Florence, I am so so sorry I missed your mums celebration of her life. I was trying to find out what the arrangements were, but, Alyssa is the one who told me everything was over, again, I am sorry I missed them. Please know that she will be in my prayers and thoughts just as my mum & dad are. I will also keep you and your children in my prayers. I know she is up there looking down on all of us so we have one more angel to watch over us in this crazy crazy world we live in. As many many South Boston residents, and other places, know your mum was a wonderful, caring and kind hearted woman. She helped so many people without expecting anything in return. Many nights on the front steps of her home in Southie, we had so so many laughs and great times. She was a wonderful mum and grandmum. She loved you, Jimmy and your three children with all of her heart. You should be very proud of yourself for being there for her throughout your life. She loved your Jimmy as if he were her son, and he loved her back. It was obvious throughout the lives of your kids, Jimmy, Jr., Michael & Karen just how much she loved them and they her. I know it is hard for you right now, but, just know she is watching over you.
Love, Cathy Shidler
