THOMAS HORNE Obituary

HORNE, Thomas A. Age 78, of Westwood, MA and West Yarmouth, MA, passed away July 23rd at Care Dimensions Hospice in Lincoln, MA after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Tom grew up in Stoneham, MA and attended Malden Catholic High School, where he was class president and basketball captain. He went on to UNH where he was also basketball captain, and scored 1000 points - a record that still holds. After graduation, Tom served as a courier for the U.S. Army out of Washington, D.C. He was honorably discharged as 1st Lt. in 1968. He worked for Xerox Corporation from 1971-2009 and retired as VP of Major Accounts in North America. Tom loved working for Xerox and made many lifelong friends. When Tom retired, he started coaching at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood. He started with football and moved on to basketball, baseball, and golf. He was such a positive motivator for young athletes and really loved working with them in all sports. Tom was an excellent golfer. He belonged to Cummaquid Golf Club in Yarmouthport where he loved playing when at his Cape house, making many friends throughout the years. Tom leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Judy (Ostberg) and his daughter Wendy Horne and her husband, Anthony Maltacea. He was predeceased by his son, Geoffrey. He also leaves his sister, Sara Slowik, and her husband, Ted, of North Carolina, and four nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to: Globe Santa Fund, PO Box 491, Medford, MA 02155 or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Tom Horne made you feel that YOU made a difference regardless if you were the parking attendant or the top sales person in the district. More than a great sales executive, he was a true friend. Rest in peace.

Judy and Wendy,
I am so sad to hear about Tom´s passing. He was the nicest guy and the best boss I ever had. He was kind and thoughtful and had to be the first one in the office in the morning! There was no point trying to beat him. I have such fond memories of him. Just thinking about him brings a smile to my face. You both were constantly on his mind. He loved you so much.

Warm hugs,
Christine

I met Tom through his wonderful daughter, Wendy. Wendy always had funny stories to tell about him -- she shares his great sense of humor. I loved hearing that he was joking with the EMTs, even in his final days. True to their natures, Tom and Judy put up an epic fight these past two years. Wendy, Judy and family, I am so sorry for your loss.

I saw Tom interact with so many Xaverian students over the years. He was always upbeat, positive, respectful, and so obviously cared about what he was doing. Oh, and most of this was after he had already retired from his career. He may have been a role model for the athletes, but he was for the coaches as well.
