TODD MCKIE Obituary

McKIE, Todd Stoddard Age 77, prominent member of the Boston art community, passed away at his home in Cambridge, MA on January 30, 2022. He will be greatly missed by fellow artists, family and friends. Todd will be remembered for his talent, dedication and unfailing sense of humor. Todd grew up in Pennsylvania and Maine. He was the son of illustrator Roy McKie, Jr. and Lois Evelyn McKie. Todd graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design, where he met his future wife, Judy Kensley McKie. A well-matched pair, Judy is an artist, sculptor and woodworker. Todd was a founding member of the art group Smart Duckys who, in 1971, hung a show called "Flush with the Walls" in the mens' room of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. This was reflective of the wit and humor that was in all Todd's work. Todd and Judy also loved travelling, with long sojourns in New Mexico and France. Todd's friendships were long-lasting, most going back many decades. Todd enjoyed football, fly fishing and was an excellent cook. He could make anyone (and everyone) laugh. Todd is survived by his wife, Judy Kensley McKie; his sister, Sarah Coar; step-mother June McKie of New York; and cousins Tom McKie and Link McKie, Jr. of Medford; granddaughter Jesseca Dottin McKie; and great-granddaughter Ava Z. Dottin-Louis of Cambridge. Also, sister-in-law, Barbara Kensley Ostrom of Lexington; brother-in-law Richard Kensley of Cambridge; sister-in-law Peggie Bouvier of Billerica; nephew Matthew Kensley Ostrom and family of New York; niece and nephew Sarah Kensley of Cambridge and Sam Kensley of Boston; and niece Laura Clark and family of Reading. Todd was predeceased by his beloved son, Jesse Simon Mckie. Todd frequently exhibited his work at Gallery NAGA in Boston. His work has also been shown at the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston, the deCordova Museum in Lincoln, MA, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston, the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. and the Centre d'Arte, France. There will be a Celebration of Todd's Life and a public memorial exhibit of his work in the spring. Details will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Jesse McKie Scholarship, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School, 459 Broadway, Cambridge, MA, 02138. I just learned of Todd´s passing. I gave him assistance in the 70´s which I think helped him show his artwork. I was happy to see how well his artwork was received. I was saddened by the loss of his son and will contribute to the scholarship in his name at Cambridge Ringe and Latin.

I began as Todd and Judy´s real estate agent in Santa Fe. How could one not delight in these two amazing people and we became good friends. Funny tennis games, great meals, lots of laughter. I am so grateful for their friendship which so enriched my life. My love and big hugs to Judy and all the family.

Dear Judy,
I read Todd´s obituary while sitting in my living room
Surrounded by two of his sculptures and two of your pieces. I am so sorry to learn of his passing . If there is a heaven, he is there enjoying the company of Rob, Brian , Jesse and those he loved who preceded him. I hope to see you at the memorial service.
