Ruth “Eloise” Flickinger

Of Marion Ohio loved to travel and would collect ideas from travel books to plan her own tours. Favorite spots included Bradenton, Florida in the winter and Northeast Ohio and Lake Erie in the summer. Born January 20, 1920 In Marion Ohio to Ditzler Fraley and Dorothy (Herring) Fraley, Eloise graduated from Marion Harding High School, class of 1937 and attended Toledo University. She married her high school sweetheart, Olen Flickinger (deceased) and had three sons and one daughter. Olen and Eloise were married for 73 years until his death in 2012. After retirement, Olen and Eloise were snowbirds and spent their winters in Bradenton Florida, where Eloise was a deaconess at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Bradenton. They especially enjoyed going to the beaches and walking the piers of Anna Marie Island. Eloise celebrated her 95th birthday on Sunday, January 18th, with a family dinner at the home of one of her sons. She died on Saturday morning, January 24, 2015 from complications of a stroke suffered the day after her birthday of January 20, 2015.Eloise is survived by two sons, William T (Sharon) of Marion Ohio, Michael H. of Cleveland, and daughter Sandy (Barry) Hupp of Lexington, Kentucky, 5 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her son James predeceased her. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2015 at the First United Church of Christ, 326 S. Prospect St., Marion, Ohio, 43302.
