Helene Weis Obituary
Born July 18, 1927, in St. Marys, Pa., she was the daughter of Mathew and Johanna Stemberger Shuster. She married James E. Weis on Aug. 23, 1947, in St. Marys.
Helene spent many wonderful years as a "homemaker," because making a home and being a mother was her finest accomplishment. As a mother, she was beautiful and vulnerable and taught her children, not on purpose, the risk of having love as your only job. She also taught them the importance of family and the richness of friends.
She is survived by the vital, funny, loving center of her life, her husband; Jim; children; Mari Jo Weis Dahlgren of Medford, N.J., Alice Bergstrom of Beecher, Ill., Jane (Doug) Weis Proudfoot of Rockford, Beth Ann Weis of Belvidere, Daniel James (Hope) Weis of Deerfield, Ill., James Lee Weis of Rockford, and Matthew James Weis of Minnesota; grandchildren, Katarina, Ian, and Sofia Dahlgren, Brent (Stephanie) Bergstrom, Steven Bergstrom, Chelsea, Alice, and Emma Brearley, Cooper Proudfoot, Oliver Morris, Sarah, Benji, and Jacob Weis, great-grandchildren; Leighton Fosberg and MacKenzi Bergstrom; sister, Lil Wehler; sisters-in-law, Joanne (Ken) Gerg of Emporium, Pa., and Ann Weis; brother-in-law, John Urmann.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Mary Zust, Rose Brajoc, twins Frank Shuster and Pauline Mocnik, and Stephanie "Staff" Fritz.
A memorial service was held Thursday in the Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd., Fred C. Olson Chapel, 1001 Second Ave.
We believe the hope of one family can have a cumulative effect on the world and create change. We also believe the flame of hope is at its strongest when we live for a common cause. As a family, we are giving together the gift of possibility, of hope. In honor of Helene, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 1111 S. Alpine Rd., Rockford, IL 61108.
