Joan Phearsdorf Obituary

ALLEGANY, N.Y. - Joan L. Phearsdorf, of 2986 N. Nine Mile Road, passed away Monday (May 13, 2013) only 16 days after the death of her husband of 62 years, Charles Phearsdorf.
Born Oct. 22, 1932, in Seabright, N.J., she was the daughter of Robert B. and Josephine Carlson Davies. On Nov. 5, 1950, at St. George's By the River Episcopal Church in Rumson, N.J., she married Charles "Charlie" Phearsdorf, who preceded her in death on April 27.
Mrs. Phearsdorf was raised in New Jersey and graduated from Long Branch High School. After moving to Allegany and while raising a family, she worked for the former Acme Electric Co. in Allegany for over 15 years.
She was active in many different ways, first as a Cub Scout Leader years ago and more recently with the Sixty Plus Club, Meals On Wheels and the Red Hat Alle-Hats. Along with her husband, she was a charter member of the Allegany Band Parents and was a strong supporter of the Allegany Historical Association. She also was a longtime member of the Allegany American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are four children, Pam (Robert) Olkosky, Bill (Debbie) Phearsdorf Sr., Nancy (Robert Silvis) Phearsdorf and Gary (Lori) Phearsdorf, all of Allegany; 10 grandchildren, Michael (Beth Dixon) Olkosky, Emily Olkosky, Amy Olkosky, Timothy Olkosky, Bill Phearsdorf Jr., Captain Adam (Maigen O' Toole) Phearsdorf, Elizabeth (Chris Fortuna) Phearsdorf, Garret (Audrey) Phearsdorf, Nolan Phearsdorf and McKenna Phearsdorf; five great-grandchildren, Molly Olkosky, Brayden Phearsdorf, Abel Phearsdorf, Brittany Phearsdorf and Brandon Phearsdorf; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are five special cousins Lillian Lockwood, Margit (Henry) Gregorson, Jeanne (Ray) Smith, Patty (Frank) Slover and Roberta (Vinnie) Fiore.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Robert Phearsdorf; and a brother, Robert Davies.
Friends will be received at the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, 3128 W. State Road, Olean, on Thursday from 2 to 4 & 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the St. Bonaventure University Chapel. The Rev. James Vacco will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Allegany Cemetery.
