Leo Niklas Sr

KANE - Leo Niklas Sr., 81, of Ohio Avenue in James City, passed away Saturday (June 18, 2022) at the Lutheran Home at Kane, where he had only resided for a couple of days.
Born on May 21, 1941 in Kane, the son of the late Joseph and Clara Gregory Niklas. He married Joeann McCauley, who preceded him in death.
Leo served in the Army, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was one of the biggest Kane area sports fans. He rarely missed a sporting event and even followed the kids when they left Kane and went to college, many times attending their sporting events. Leo had worked at the Johnsonburg Papermill and had also worked in construction, helping to build the upper reservoir at Kinzua Dam.
He was a member of the Wilcox Sportsman Club, the Kane VFW, the Moose Club and the Eagles Club. Leo was a very generous man and would help anybody he could. He also was very active in the AA program for over 13 years. He loved being outside, hunting and gardening and he loved to travel whenever he could. He was everyone's hero!
He is survived by four daughters, Sandra Newton of Ludlow, Barbara Palmer in Colorado, Patricia Sirochmen of James City and Rebecca Niklas of Sharon; one son, Robert Niklas of James City; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Anna Jane Anderson of Kane, Mary Ostrander of Port Allegany and Theresa Gustafson of Kane; and one brother, Peter Niklas of James City.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Loeann Niklas and Brenda Suda; one son, Leo Niklas Jr.; one sister, Dorothy Thiry; and four brothers, Joseph, John, Jake and Jerry Niklas.
Friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Cummings Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, 2022 and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Gathering Space at St. Callistus. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, with the Rev. William O'Brien, as celebrant. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at St. Callistus Cemetery.
