Melanie Moon Obituary

Melanie Cook Moon

Melanie Cook Moon, of Steamboat Springs, passed away suddenly on March 28th. She initially lived in Colrain, MA, the family moving to Wilmington, VT, and then to Winchester, NH. She graduated from Northfield-Mount Hermon School and went on to study horticulture at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. She then moved to Alaska before settling in Steamboat Springs, where she met her future husband, Ridgway (Skidge) Moon. They were married on October 6th, 1998. Melanie is survived by Skidge and their beloved rottweiler, Dude. Melanie is the daughter of Sandra Kelley Cook and the late Robert (Timer) Cook. She also leaves behind 3 loving brothers, Brian, Michael, and Douglas Cook, all of Winchester, NH and their spouses and children. Growing up Melanie rode horses and competed in 4-H and area events. This love of animals continued throughout her life. Melanie was professionally known as The Plant Lady. She was passionate about plants. She made unique wreaths from local barbed wire, horseshoes and willow. She collected rocks and knew of their geology. She read extensively. She loved living in Steamboat Springs, inspired by her surroundings and its history. There were the sunsets on the Flattops, the elk and moose passing through her yard, the occasional bear on her porch, the magpies in the treetops, all signatures of the West. She loved the Lord. In keeping with the family's wishes there will be no public services. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to one's local animal shelter.
