BRISTOL
Paul George Trogele, Jr., 91, of Avon, formerly of Bristol & Elmhurst, NY, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at The Residence at Brookside in Avon.
He was the widower of Mary Elizabeth (Walsh) Trogele.Paul was born in Elmhurst, NY on June 14, 1931, and was a son of the late Paul G. Trogele, Sr., and Josephine Dambacher, immigrants from Wurttenberg, Germany. His brother Arthur Trogele also predeceased him.
Paul graduated from St. Francis Prep in Brooklyn, NY
and joined the Navy in 1951, setting him on a career path in aviation.
While stationed overseas during the Korean War, Paul enjoyed touring
the cities and countryside of Japan. On January 8, 1955, Paul Trogele married Mary, the love of his life, and they drove cross- country to San
Diego while he finished his tour of duty in the Navy. In 1956, upon discharge from the Navy as a Petty Officer 2 nd Class, they moved to Elmhurst, NY to begin building a family.
Paul joined Pan American World Airways and worked at Idlewild Airport now known as JFK, where he witnessed the transition of commercial flying to the jet age. He and
Mary took advantage of Pan Ams employee travel benefits and visited many destinations in the US, Asia, and Europe. While living in Elmhurst for 48 years they raised three children Tom, Elizabeth & Steven.
While the kids were young, the family spent their summers with Mary's sister Alice and her family on Cedar Island off Clinton, Connecticut. They called Cedar Island their own Bali Hai, spending their time there fishing swimming and creating lifelong memories. Paul retired in 1991 after Pan
Am ceased flying. In retirement, they continued enjoying their travels and visiting their grandkids in Long Island, Connecticut, and
Massachusetts.
In 2005, Paul and Mary were happy to relocate to Bristol to be closer to their daughter Elizabeth. Paul is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas and Rosario Trogele of Hingham, MA, and Steven and Pamela Trogele of Carle Place, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and George Willett of Bristol; his nephew Robert Trogele of Newport Beach, California, who he loved like a son; nine grandchildren, James, Thomas, Carolyn, Ashley, Lauren, Brittany and
Steven Trogele, and Timothy and Robert Willett; and other nieces and nephews. Paul was also the great grandpa to five great-grandchildren.
The visiting hour will be this Saturday morning, April 15, 2023from 9 to 10 AM at Funk Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Avenue, Bristol. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Church at 33 Queen St., Bristol.Interment
will follow with military honors in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Bristol.
