Mark Ahumada Obituary

Mark Anthony Ahumada, 37, formerly of Brownsville, our beloved son, brother, uncle and friend, entered into the glory of his eternal life on Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at New York Presbyterian Columbia Hospital in New York City.

Mark was born in Brownsville in 1974, the oldest son of Patricio "Pat" Ahumada Jr. and Adriana Campuzano Ahumada. Mark was proud to have been the first one in his family to receive a higher education, graduating from Homer Hanna High School in 1993, and then moving to Austin where he attended the University of Texas, graduating with a bachelor's in sociology and an MBA in 2004. Mark was continuing his education in New York.

Mark moved to New York about 13 years ago and was working at ACDP Clinic as a social therapist working with abused children. In those short 13 years, Mark not only touched the lives of many, but he made a significant impact on the patients he served, his co-workers, and the many he came in contact with in his community through his willingness to help and give back to people in need.

Mark loved traveling, cycling, listening to music, and New York, but mostly working with children. He was a very joyful person, always with a huge smile on his face. Mark put everyone before himself and he was always willing to lend a helping hand. Mark was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by those fortunate to have known him.

Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Adriana Ahumada; a sister, Carolina Ahumada; his maternal grandparents, Gloria and Fernando Campuzano; and his paternal grandparents, Guadalupe M. and Patricio Ahumada Sr.

Left behind to eternally treasure their memories of Mark are his loving father, Patricio "Pat" Ahumada Jr.; his siblings, Claudia Patricia Ahumada, Oscar Mauricio (Allie Cornejo) Ahumada, Jose Alfredo Ahumada, Evelyn Ahumada and her mother, Patricia Alafitta; a niece, Carolina Ahumada; and a nephew, Joaquin Ahumada. Mark will also be missed by his numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and extended family, particularly the O'Neill family in New York and the many friends who loved and mourn Mark's unexpected passing caused by an arrhythmic heart.

In accordance with Mark's wishes, he was cremated and a memorial service was held on Saturday, March 9, in Astoria, NY.

Mark's family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, with a liturgical service celebrating Mark's life starting at 7 p.m. in the East Chapel at Darling-Mouser Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Mark's name may be made to the Brownsville Police Department Community and Youth Program, Attn: Chief's Office, 600 E. Jackson St., Brownsville, TX 78520; and/or Driscoll Children's Hospital, Attn: Development Dept., 3533 S. Alameda, Corpus Christi, TX 78411, phone 361-694-6401, as Mark organized a toy drive in New York for children and worked with children.

Dear Ahumada Family,
It is with great sadness that I write this note. I taught Mark at Pace High School. He was active and participated orally in my English class! He was a great debater and was always smiling! He loved life and lived it well from what Ive read in his obituary. May God give you comfort in knowing he is in heaven helping others, as was his nature! Blessings and prayers to all of you!
