David Brown Obituary

Brown, David H., DDS

Feb 14, 1956 - Mar 19, 2025

Passed away at home after a 39-year battle with oral/head and neck cancer. He left behind his spouse of 39 years, Beth Reilly DDS, two sons, Sean Brown DDS (Danielle Detweiler DDS) and Conor Brown, and a sister Dr. Carole Brown Knuth. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Milton H. Brown DDS and Catherine (Stewart) Brown, and his sister, Dr. Donna Brown Mills. David graduated from Williamsville South High School in 1974 where he played baseball and was a member of the National Honor Society. He went on to his beloved Notre Dame University and graduated cum laude in 1978. GO IRISH! Dr. Brown received his DDS degree from State University of Buffalo Dental School, where he was a member of the great class of 1983. Dr. Brown completed a general practice residency at the Buffalo Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 1984. He was a former member of the University and Saturn Clubs. He was a life member of the Tuscarora Yacht Club. Being a survivor of oral cancer, Dr. Brown participated in the Ride for Roswell in 2005. He become an ardent cyclist due to the Ride for Roswell and the Empire State Ride. He was passionate about raising funds for cancer research, and raised over $300,000 for Roswell. David also participated in the Ride for Missing Children. Dr. Brown was in clinical practice in Eggertsville and Tonawanda until 2002, when he became a full-time professor at the University of Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. Over the years Dr. Brown received numerous teaching awards. All of this does not express David's great kindness to others. Dr. Brown influenced so many other people, especially in the dental and cycling communities by believing in them and supporting them. David was much beloved for his empathy and his wonderful sense of humor. He is deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Empire State Ride/Ride for Roswell, the Joe Maffei Scholarship at the School of Dental Medicine or Christ United Methodist Church Memorial Fund. A Celebration of Life will be held at Christ United Methodist Church, 350 Saratoga Rd., Amherst at 4:00 PM on April 12, 2025. Arrangements by AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC. One of the most "accomplished" yet down to earth people u ever want to meet. His accomplishments, his willingness and drive to help other people spoke volumes about himself and his personality. I'm sure he will be missed by his students, fellow staff members & members of his church. Try to save a place for us up there, Dave, & hopefully we'll c u again someday. Sincerely, Bill Watson.

David was my Dentist for a short period of time before he went back to teaching. I knew him best for the years he and the family have spent at Christ Church - I loved hearing about his cycling adventures and his love for teaching the many students he touched over the years. He did indeed have a wonderful sense of humor and was a kind, compassionate husband, father and friend. I will miss him dearly.
