David Dahn Obituary

Dahn, David J.

Sept. 20, 1962 - March 29, 2024

Age 61 of Buffalo, NY, after a prolonged illness. Devoted son of Kim (nee Chavel) Dahn and impassioned brother of Deneen Dahn (John Jensen). Predeceased by his father, Phillip (Deborah) Dahn. Big stepbrother to Janine Linvell, Kenny Rossa, and Tammy Rossa. Also survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many cousins. David grew up in Buffalo, a 1981 graduate of Bishop Timon H.S., where he was Lettered and Captained the Chess Team, earning 1st Board All Catholic. Then attended UNLV obtaining a Bachelor's in Political Science and a Master's in Public Administration. Throughout college and beyond he was a Union Iron Worker, local #433. At 35 he was the youngest person in the U.S. to be a State Labor Commissioner, appointed in Nevada following several years of serving as their Deputy Labor Commissioner. After resigning returned to iron working, then retired in Buffalo, and in later years cared for his mother. He was a staunch advocate and activist for labor unions and workers' rights. He was an ardent aficionado of economic systems and politics, serving as a VIP Page at the Democratic National Convention in 1992. David was an avid (ranked) poker player, loved to debate, was well known for being stubborn and stalwart, and was always sympathetic to underdogs and the disadvantaged.
