DANIELS - Jonathan David, M.D.
Passed away on Monday, July 4, 2022. He was born on November 18, 1968, to Mary F. (née Johnson) and the late James Billy Daniels in Buffalo, NY. He is preceded in death by his father and father-in-law Raymond R. Givens. In his early education at Public School 61 he demonstrated great promise and he was placed at City Honors School in the 5th grade, from which he graduated in 1986. On a college tour sponsored by the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Leadership Intern Program, he met the love of his life, his wife, Janessa Estelle Givens Daniels in 1986. They were married on May 14, 1994, and became the parents of three incredible and beautiful girls: Jordan Alexandria, 27 and Jensen Alliyah, 23, who perished with Jonathan, and Jillian Alicia-Marie, 24, Deputy Director of Operations for Silver-Eye Center for Photography in Pittsburgh, PA. Jonathan practiced at Main Pediatrics for nineteen years and most recently created the Pediatric clinic at Urban Family Practice. As one of only two practicing Black pediatricians in the second-largest city in New York State, Jonathan felt the call to work toward greater diversity in the medical field. He began to work actively to recruit minorities to UB and was eventually appointed Associate Dean of Admissions for the University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences. Jonathan was also active in the larger community. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated for thirty-five-years. Jonathan is survived by his wife, Janessa E. Givens Daniels; daughter, Jillian Alicia-Marie Daniels; mother, Mary F. Daniels; brothers, Vincent Daniels (Theresa) and Kenneth Scales (Kiki); mother-in-law, Alicia D. Givens; sisters-in-law, Dr. Melissa E. Givens of Claremont, CA and Alexa J. Givens Wajed (Edreys); nephews, Eman and Emeka Wajed; niece, Dorothea Daniels; great-niece, Destiny Tisdale; great-nephew, Demetrice Tisdale, Jr.; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and treasured friends. Services will take place on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Friendship Baptist Church, 402 Clinton Street, Buffalo, NY 14204. The family will be present for visitation from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., to be immediately followed by the funeral service, and interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
