Michael Wartko Obituary

WARTKO-Michael, Jr. Born October 29, 1930 in Jessup, PA, passed away December 9, 2006 in Houston, TX. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 where he served during the Korean War. He married Marie Cozza of Philadelphia, PA and moved to Tonawanda, NY. A dedicated member of Local Union 774 U.A.W., he was also a member of St. Cyril of Alexandria Church where he was an usher for 12 years. Michael was an avid sports fan and fitness buff.Michael is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marie C. Wartko; daughters, Catherine Wawrzyniec and husband, John Dickey, Deborah Wartko-Conner and husband, Danny; son, Michael J. Wartko and wife, Gena; grandchildren, Sean, Ryan and Katy Wawrzyniec and Mikey Wartko; sisters, Jo Martin, Pauline Passeri and Ann Kitson and husband Robert; brothers, Paul Wartko and wife, Mary and Thomas Wartko and wife, Lydia; sisters-in-law, Rose Wartko and Mary Jane Wartko. In addition, he leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews around the USA and world. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Geraldine, Mary and Kay and his brothers, Joseph, Daniel, John and Edward.Visitors welcome from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home with a Vigil Service to be observed at 7:30 P.M. Funeral Mass: 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, December 13, 2006, St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic Church, 10503 Westheimer Rd. Rite of Committal: Houston National Cemetery. For those desiring, family suggests donations to St. Cyril of Alexandria Church, Houston, TX.

Aunt Marie, Just wanted to express my sorrow for Uncle Mike's death. I'm sure his absence will be difficult for you and your family. I'll long remember our nice visit to Houston both with the Kitson family and my friend Beth. You guys were superb hosts!
