I am so sorry to learn of Neil's passing. I was out of town at the time and am shocked to learn of it. Neil was a valued member of the legal community and an exceptional and generous member of the human community. He will be missed.

Neil's "mentorship," (as I now understand it to have been) at Iroquois, and renewed friendship of the past few years - albeit across many miles -- are the precious gifts that we too often don't acknowledge until they are lost. Thank you Elise for bringing us back together! I share with you and the family and friends and the Buffalo community the significant joys of having "experienced Neil" and the pain of losing him far too early.

A mass is being said for Neil at the Church of the Transfiguration here in New York City... aka "the little church around the corner" known for caring for actors at a time when other churches didn't allow them services or burials. He was an extraordinary man and I'm so grateful to have known him.

My deepest sympathies for Neil's family and friends (which would be most of Western New York). I haven't seen Neil in 30 years, but followed his success on stage via internet (I acted with him in the 70's.) I can still hear his generous laugh--only a great actor could be as great an audience as Neil was. The stage will never be the same.

We were very sad to hear that Neil passed away. He was such a tremendous 'personality!' We had many good times with Neil, along with our late friend Georgia Mehl, always 'lifting a glass' to our Elma days! We will miss seeing him, and having our usual

Kate and I extend our sincere condolences to the entire Garvey family in this time of grief and loss. Neil was an iconic and beloved figure in the Buffalo theatre community and we are particularly proud to have called him our friend. Neil in the ICHS musical "How to Succeed..."

Neil's passing was so untimely and I found myself immediately going to my copy of the 1974 Iroquoian (the Iroquois Central High School yearbook) to see, on page 10, a picture of Neil in the 1973 class musical "How to Succeed in Business (Without Really Trying)" and the caption on the following page "Neil Garvey explains emphatically that "A sectretary is not a toy", which was one of the songs his character sang. Many years have passed since that musical, but perhaps the values that Neil found in Drama Club were those that carried him through life: discipline, teamwork, accuracy, precision, focus, passion, committment, appreciation for a job done well (and being able to understand when the job was done well). Although I only knew Neil from that experience in 1973, I cannot help but wonder how many lives were made better because of the values he held dear, and how his values continue to live through others.

Carolyn and Family:
So sorry for your loss. While I never met Neil, he clearly meant a lot to you and your family. After reading an article about Neil, I now know where you got your love for theatre, music and dance from. May you find you peace knowing he is watching over you and will always live in you and through you.

I met Neil as a result of Shakespeare in the park and have remained an admirer for over 20 years. I always enjoyed his ability to make Shakespearean quips pertinent to many situations.
I always considered him as a Renaissance man and admired the energy and dedication to the Delaware Park and other WNY theater.
A very admirable person.
