Thomas WHELAN Obituary
Of Kenmore, NY, August 8, 2020. Loving father of William F., Robert (Mary), James, Thomas (Anita), Deborah (James) Watkins, Daniel (Anne Marie), David, and Donald (Rebecca) Whelan; former husband of Suzanne Stoddart Whelan; survived by 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother of Andrew (late Lucille), Cecilia Whelan, late Lawrence (late Jean), late Michael (Lucille) Whelan; also survived by nieces and nephews. All are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. Paul's RC Church, 33 Victoria Blvd. (at Delaware Ave.), Kenmore Saturday at 11 AM. Please meet at church. Arrangements by D. LAWRENCE GINNANE FUNERAL HOME. Memorials to Hospice Foundation, Inc., 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, are preferred. Tom was a retiree of the South Buffalo Railway and was the Girls Field Hockey and Track Coach at Eden High School for many years, also a member of the Belle Watlings Running Club. I don't like people...but I liked Mr.Whelan. "Tom" as he would humbly insisted that I call him , even tho he liked the correct Irish pronunciation of "Wheeeelan". This was an evolved human who I respected,that raised 8 honest productive kids,had interests in sports ,politics,hard work and not ashamed to shed a tear when Judy Garland sang! I truly admired his ability to assess each person as an individual and address them with respect ,accessability,and a wry wicked sense of humor. I only knew T.W.for a brief time,but it didn't take long to fall in love with him. He had big shoulders til the end ,Rest in Peace,Mr.Whelan,you were truly one of the good ones.

Mr Whelan was a kind friend and a good neighbor.
Always a man with a good word and a big smile, he provided a steady foundation for all eight of his children.
His big heart and warm smile will truly be missed.
