Marjorie Lappe Obituary

INDEPENDENCE – Marjorie Jo (Weber) Lappe, 79 years old, of Independence, Iowa, died Thursday, March 20, 2025, at the Buchanan County Health Center in Independence, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was 10:30 a.m. – Monday, March 24, at St. John Catholic Church with Very Rev. David M. Beckman as celebrant assisted by Deacon Timothy Post. Burial was at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Independence.
Visitation was for an hour before services at the church.
Marjorie was born March 9, 1946, in Independence, the daughter of Louis John Weber and Laura Alice (Forrester) Weber. She grew up on a farm south of Independence and graduated from St. John Catholic High School with the class of 1964. On September 25, 1965, she was united in marriage to Paul LaVern Lappe at St. John Catholic Church in Independence. The couple made their home in Independence where she worked in Dr. Scott's optometry office as a receptionist and bookkeeper. She went on to work at Hess Pharmacy in Independence for 13 years as a pharmacy technician and then she worked as a secretary at the Buchanan County Public Health nurse's office. Later she worked at the Independence School District as a secretary. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church where she was active in the rosary society, funeral choir, and the prayer shawl ministry. She always looked forward to the fall bizarre where she would make peanut brittle, sew dolls, or help in any capacity that was necessary.
She is survived by her son, Eric (Paula) Lappe of Andover, Illinois; her daughter, Paula (Timothy) Wielinski of Prescott, Arizona; two grandchildren; one brother, David Weber of Marion, Iowa; one sister, Georgia Jepson of Richardson, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Joyce Weber of Independence.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul Lappe; one brother, Dale Weber; one sister, Joanne Kalina and her husband Sylvester "Pete"; and her brother-in-law, David Jepson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. John Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice.
