Suzanne Davis Obituary

Suzanne Adams Davis

Age: 72 • Brandon

Suzanne Adams Davis, age 72, died Friday, September 9, 2016, surrounded by her loving family, at the Vermont Respite House in Williston. Suzanne was born in Boston, MA on May 5, 1944. She was the daughter of Robert and Erica (Bissell) Adams, who owned The Adams on Route 7 in Brandon where Suzanne grew up. She graduated from Penn Hall High School in Chambersburg, PA. She received her bachelor's degree with honors from Connecticut College, class of 1968. Suzanne taught at the Sudbury Country School from its opening until her retirement in 2009. She was a member of the Brandon Garden Club, the Monday Club, and had served on the board of directors of the Brandon Free Public Library.

Surviving is her husband Hanford "Skip" Davis of Brandon; whom she married December 28, 1966; two sons; Lt. Col. Justin Hanford Davis, USA, of Grand Isle, VT and Jed Robert Davis & his wife Noelle of Essex, VT, her grandchildren; Lona Davis and Georgia Davis, and brother, Robert "Charlie" Adams of Dover, NH.

Suzanne was proud of her 50 year marriage to Skip. A lifelong teacher, she considers her "two boys" to be her proudest accomplishments in life. Additionally she will be remembered as a loving "Zuzu" to her two granddaughters Lona and Georgia, whom she very much helped raise from birth. Suzanne loved dinner parties, Lake Dunmore, Nantucket, her glasses of Chardonnay with good company, and most of all her family and many friends.

A gathering "In Celebration Of Her Life" will be held on Saturday October 1st at The Brandon Inn from 2pm to 4pm. Friends may pay their respects at the family home, 24 Park Street, Brandon, from 1pm to 2pm. Suzanne requested guests to pass through the Park Street house, and then gather at the Inn next door.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made in her memory to The Lake Dunmore Fern Lake Association's "Lakes Alive" Campaign, P.O. Box 14, Salisbury, VT 05769, or online at www.ldfla.com. The campaign serves to protect the natural vitality of Lake Dunmore.

The Davis family would like to thank the Rutland Visiting Nurses Association, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Rutland Regional Medical Center, The Vermont Respite House, and Suzanne's many friends, for their loving and skillful care of Suzanne.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Suzanne, Janice, Chad, Mark and I shared many memories and much laughter as teachers of the Sudbury Country School. She taught me how to keep my sense of humor in any circumstance. I will miss her presence deeply and cherish the many memories we shared. My heart is with all of you.

45 years ago, in 1971, I was 12 years old in 6th grade at Proctor Elementary School, where I believe Suzanne Davis was my teacher. Suzanne was about 27 years old and full of energy and new teaching methods. I remember Suzanne (Mrs.Davis) to be very engaged with her students, bringing us gently up to her standards. Suzanne was a wonderful teacher to us and I learned a lot from her that year. I missed her very much the next year of school. I want her family to know she influenced my life in a positive way at a pivotal time in my life; as I am sure she also touched hundreds of other people-her students, family and friends-during her lifetime on earth.
Although, I have not seen Suzanne all these years, her spirit is still with me, and I wish to send my condolences to her entire family at this difficult time. May you ALL rest in God's peace, love and understanding in the days ahead as you remember beloved Suzanne.
Until we can meet again,
Blessings in Christ,
Carlene Peterson Smith

I treasure my memories of dining with Suzanne, Skip and all the extended Davis clan. So a spunky, lively woman that could bring a smile to anyone. She brought joy to my winemaking when I would bring my finest vintages for Suzanne and cousins to enjoy; which they did with great merriment.

We will miss this cute cousin of mine. Who else could "cut the rug" like Tinan and dress as a cow girl the next day? Dedicated teacher, a lovely housekeeper, a loyal wife, and a loving and effective mother as well as and a good friend, Suzanne will continue to be a part of our lives for a long time.
