Eddie Engle Obituary

EDDIE ENGLE Edwin Ralph Engle, Jr., who lived and worked the land he loved in Reece, went home to rest on Saturday, June 28, 2025, right there on his beloved farm near Reece, at the age of 64. Born on July 23, 1960, in Wichita, to Edwin Ralph, Sr., and Barbara Ann (Miller) Engle, Eddie's path in life was also shaped by being lovingly raised by his dad, Floyd Austin Hagins, Jr. His early years were spent growing up in Olpe, attending local schools before the family moved on to western Kansas. He proudly graduated from Jetmore High School with the Class of 1978. His working life began at the Dieker's in Strong City, eventually leading him to a position at the refinery in El Dorado. Through those years, Matfield Green was where he mostly called home. In 2008, he found his permanent home in Reece. It was here that he met his future partner, Chris. He retired in September 2017.Retirement didn't slow him down; he turned his hand to growing and selling produce, and it wasn't long before everyone knew "Engle Farms" was the place to go for fresh goods. On August 28, 2010, Eddie was united in marriage to Christina Marie (McCullough) Gulick in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home on the farm. He was every inch a farm boy, his hands familiar with the honest work of the land hauling hay in the heat of summer and splitting wood against the winter's bite. Beyond the chores, Eddie was a master of good company, a renowned storyteller and joketeller. When he entered a room, the air seemed to lighten; he simply didn't allow for dull moments. His heart held a special place for the quiet joy of fishing the local creeks, the thrill of a good hunt, the satisfaction of tending his bountiful garden, and the sweet reward of his beekeeping. But above all, he cherished the deep bonds he shared with his community and friends, always ready to lend a hand or share a laugh. He is survived by his wife, Chris, at their home; four children: Bryan and wife, Drew Engle of Emporia; Justin and wife, Mindy Engle of Emporia; Heather and husband, Thomas Staples of Emporia; and Courtney and husband, Dean Barksdale of Eureka; thirteen grandchildren; one sister, Terry Miller of Emporia; three nephews; and two nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sheila Swartz and Cheryl Stegman. A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Reece Cemetery, Reece. Koup Family Funeral Home is overseeing arrangements. Condolences may be left for the family online atkoupfunerals.com.

So sorry to hear of Ed's passing. Got to know him thru work and you could trust that things were done right when he was on. Enjoyed a bottle or 2 of salsa he would sale on occasions. My thoughts and prayers to all of the family!

Ed was always the gentleman--at work things could get difficult. But Ed always made me feel welcome and appreciated-and he worked for the good of everyone. My sympathy for his family-he will be missed. Hugs

Ed and I struck it off from the first time that we met. I loved his sense of hummer and the stories that he would tell. I was really looking forward to seeing him again at the vegetable stand this year. He will be greatly missed. God rest his soul.
