Catherin Bruen Obituary

BRUEN Sr. Patrick (Catherine F.) Bruen, OLC, died peacefully at the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity Convent, Carrollton, Ohio, Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at the age of 84.Sr. Patrick was born February 19, 1928 in Ross Port, County Mayo, Ireland, to Michael and Maria Hegarty Bruen. She was the youngest of six children: Tessie, Mamie, Michael, Liam and Ellis. She was reared on the Bruen farm and educated in the school where her mother taught. After graduation, Sister was employed by the Irish Civil Service for several years before deciding at the age of 23 to leave Ireland to join the Sisters of Our Lady of Charity in Dallas, Texas in 1951. She professed her final vows on December 8, 1956.While in Dallas, Sister worked with young women at Mount St. Michael's School as a child care worker and educator. Later Sister was a parish minister at Saint Pius X Church, Corpus Christi, Texas for 28 years until her illness. She was noted for dancing an Irish Jig or two at the yearly parish festival. The festival past year was dedicated in her honor. Her ministry at Saint Pius X Church was very dear to her heart.Sister held various positions of leadership in her community including several terms as Superior.Mass of Christian Burial will be held August 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the convent chapel, Carrollton, Ohio with burial following at the Immaculate Heart Cemetery on the convent grounds.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Education Fund, Sisters of Our Lady of Charity, PO Box 340, Carrollton, Ohio 44615.Call Sweeney-Dodds Funeral Homes, 330.627.5505, for billing information.
