Gwen Tyler-Munson Obituary

Gwen Tyler-Munson

Corpus Christi, TX

"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, and I have kept my faith." On June 24, 1017, Gwen Tyler- Munson received her wings. Gwen was born on September 25, 1954 to Hugh Edward Tyler and Rae D. Arlington-Phelps in Corpus Christi, Texas. Gwen graduated from Richard King High School in 1973 and went on to attend Del Mar College. On August 3, 1973, she married Robert M. Samford, and out of that union was blessed with a daughter. On March 17, 1996, she met and married her soul mate Peter F. Munson. They were married for 17 short, but wonderful years, until his passing 2011. Out of that union, she was blessed with two wonderful step-children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren,. Gwen was a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, grandmother, and friend. She loved unconditionally, and she truly treasured her family and friends.

Gwen worked for fourteen years in the banking industry and then decided to go to work in sales for two years, until a transfer moved her family to Schulenburg, Texas. There, she was a bookkeeper for seven years. After her divorce from Mr. Samford in 1992, she went to work for the Nueces County Sheriff's Dept. until an injury caused her retirement in 1998.

Her beloved husband Peter, her father Hugh Tyler, her sister Devry Samford, her maternal grandparents George and Bernice Arlington, her paternal grandparents Oran Tyler, Sr. and Alma Tyler-Ramsey, and step-daughter Fawn Munson, precede her in death. She leaves to cherish her memories, mother and stepfather Rae and Grady Phelps, stepmother Nelda Tyler, brother Mark (Sheri) Tyler and sister Karen (Adan) Randolph- Arredondo, all of Corpus Christi, Texas. Sisters Lorri Beckner (Bobby) of Burnet, Texas, Debra Phelps-Smith (Ernie) of Dickinson, Texas, brother Doug (Dawn) Wright, of Skidmore, Texas, brother-in-law, Norvin Samford of Center Point, Texas. Daughter Elizabeth Samford of Texas, step-son Myles (Julie) Munson of Centennial, Co., four grandchildren, Michael (Leslie) Massenburg of Richardson, Texas, Cooper and Cameron Munson of Centennial, Co., Forrest Munson of Northport, ME and two great-grandchildren Callie and Gavin Massenburg of Richardson, Texas. Cousins, nieces, and nephews. Her best and treasured friends who were like sisters, Debbie (Dan) DeSha-Surgenor of McKinney, Texas, and Linda Makelki (Dan) of Corpus Christi, Texas, and her wonderful former Beta Sigma Phi sisters. Also, her beloved and confidant Sherry Phelps, who helped her more than anyone will ever know. And her two fur babies and companions, Cricket and Jimini. Gwen loved bright colors and would like everyone to wear beautiful colors and no black.
