Inez Kendrick GowensCorpus Christi, TXInez Kendrick Gowens, beloved wife of Ray Gowens and mother of Paul, Frank, Eddie, Jim, and Kevin, passed away Jan 16, 2015, in Corpus Christi, Texas at the age of 96. She was a sweet and gentle person devoted to her family. Inez was born Jan 6, 1919, in Mountain View, Arkansas to Ralph and Mamie Kendrick. She was reared in Mountain View where she met and married Ray Gowens Feb 7, 1942. They moved to Corpus Christi in 1956, which has been her home ever since. Inez is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, a son, Kevin (Susan), grandson Bryan Gowens, brothers Thurlow and Kyle Kendrick, and sisters Nancy Nelson and Earnestine Roper. She is survived by sister Anna Jean Brewer (Laudis) of Mountain View, Arkansas and brother Ralph Kendrick, Jr (Margaret) of Lawrence, Kansas; sons Paul (Pat) of Austin, Texas, Frank (Mary) of St. Augustine, Florida, Eddie (Genny) of Elgin, Texas, and Jim (Cheryl) of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter-in-law Susan Gowens Reitmann of Corpus Christi; grandchildren Geoff (Meredith), Ryan (Tiffany), Darren, Greg, Ed, Craig, Garret (Bri), Robert, and Laura Gowens, Heather Knight, Amber Hirschberg (Mike), and Amy Higgins (Andy); great grandchildren Aidan, Quinn, Lindsay, Alyssa, Noah, Elliot, and Maggie Gowens, and Matthew Hirschberg; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.Inez was a member of Windsor Park Baptist Church which she attended faithfully until she became a resident of Homewood Residence at Corpus Christi, an assisted living facility. The family wishes to thank the Homewood staff for the care they provided Inez. The family will receive visitors at Seaside Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 4357 Ocean Drive, Corpus Christi, on Monday, January 19, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers.
