Thomas Drought Obituary

Thomas DroughtThomas Drought was born in San Antonio, Texas on July 5, 1923. He died peacefully on December 8, 2015 at his beloved Hill Country home. Tom was the son of Henry Patrick Drought, Jr. and Kathleen Lukin Drought, both deceased and was preceded in death by his brothers Patrick and James and Mary Strieber, sister. Tom was a graduate of Texas Military Institute, University of Texas and St. Mary's University Law School.He served as a U. S. Marine Corps pilot in World War II and Korean War and awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, two Air Medals and Presidential and Navy Unit Citations. He was a practicing attorney in his family's firm founded in 1881 and he was honored in 2001 by State Bar of Texas for 50 years of meritorious service. A longtime Trustee of the San Antonio Museum Association -Tom was president when the Lone Star Brewery was purchased and development initiated for the San Antonio Art Museum. He additionally served on San Antonio Art Museum, Our Lady of Lake University, Sarah Roberts French Home, Morningside Manor, San Antonio River Authority and the Alamo Council of Governments boards.He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Jane Travis, daughter of the late Brigadier General Robert F. Travis and Mrs. Frances Jane Travis; his daughters, Kathleen Danysh, (Richard), Janie Bell (Philip), Virginia King (Chuck) and son, Thomas Drought, Jr. (Laurie), ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren.A memorial service will be held Thursday, December 17, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at St Anthony de Padua, 107 Lorenz Road, San Antonio, Texas, 78209 followed by reception in the Church Hall. Donations may be made to the Archbishop's Appeal for the Poor, 2718 W. Woodlawn San Antonio, Texas, 78228, Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas, 66675 or charity of your choice.
